We started off the day by taking our dirty clothes in to a Chinese Laundry ;->
Then, a couple of subway rides over to Lantau Island to take a cable car ride (5.5kms) over to Ngong Ping village, the Po Lin Monastery and "The Big" Tian Tan Buddah. The cable car climbs over 500 ear-popping meters up and gives an astonishing view of the International Airport. The village is a commercial enterprise more than anything else, but the Tian Tan Buddah is on the top of a hill and is simply huge. (Technically, its 23 meters high, bronze and weighs 202 tons). We didn't climb the 260 steps to get next to it--it was big enough from where we were looking. The Monestery is an amazingly peaceful place with no incense allowed inside and ornate beyond written description.
We came back to Taikoo Shing and found a grocery store to buy some foodstuffs for supper, picked up our lovely clean clothes and headed back to Brian's beautiful flat. We had dinner and fresh strawberries for a treat and made some plans for our trip to Bangkok. We are looking forward to travelling there with experienced Thailand travellers, who will be able to guide us to the best sights, shopping and especially eating!
We are off to Macau tomorrow to stay in the MGM Grand for quick visit. It will only be one night but we will get to see the highlights of Macau, do a little gambling and travel in a Jetfoil!
Blog later,
Laurel and Michael

Hi there, your trip sounds amazing thus far. So impressed with the inclusion of all the Chinese names of the places. Does the computer spell check in Chinese?
ReplyDeleteNot much news, bought a car but had trouble getting what I wanted so had to get an automatic, with speed shifting. When I said to Kris that my right hand felt unengaged due to not shifting, he suggested that I could always take up smoking again!!Big help that boy... bought the same as Carolines car in red...a different red that my current car.Not too much to chose from in the 09's so they had to look all across Canada.0% interest on the 09's is the draw and a lower sticker price than the 10's.Lou comes tomorrow and we are going to Dauphin for easter.(yea) Blair and Jennie have found a new apartment near Edison and Rothesay, in the "Lady Erica".Moving soon and are +++ excited about the space they will gain. They and mum and Kris are coming for dinner on Thursday.
