A sea day yesterday--nothing to report, and today, we are in Keelung, the port for Taipei. We took a ship's tour by bus into Taipei. We stopped at a temple and then at Chaing Kai Shek's Memorial Palace. It was an amazing place--Google it--and we watched the Changing of the Guard--only 2 Guards, so not much, but they did do some fancy footwork. A shopping stop and then a photo-op at the Taipei 101 building--now the tallest in the world. In the city's context, it is amazing because nothing else tops 30 stories, so it sticks out like a sore thumb. Quite an engineering feat, given that it sits on top of an active earthquake fault line, and in a typhoon zone. Back to the ship, where there were a bunch of Lion Dancers and Drum Players--kids from age 7 to 15--very talented--performing for the people on the pier area.
We have a half day in Okinawa tomorrow and will blog after that!

ReplyDeleteWe are getting ready for Ed's Pool windup party , the team plus a few..Lou is here and Blair and Jen and Kris will attend. Having East Indian food, we spent the morning chopping and spice-ing!Did I tell you how well the team did? They were 2ed in the Cash 1 division taking home 2300.00 as a team. An almost cinderella story as they were really in the middle of their Monday night group and there were 41 teams overall. So they have something to celebrate!I am off to train as a CPR First aid trainer on Monday, it is a group of professionals, an EMT, paramedic, a 911 operator,so it should be a good group and will only take 2 days. I think it will be great.Still cold here, we had a period of huge snow flakes for an hour this morning, the ground was turning white!!!Slow spring for sure. We have seen some motorcycles out but it is way too early for us. Blair had his but brought it back as the forecast was so poor.Well I must sign off as people coming soon. Bye for now
